We launched the Delta Creative Business Challenge in August 2018 for Coahoma County Residents. Six participants receive free entrepreneurship training utilizing the nationally recognized Work of Art curriculum developed by our project partner Springboard for the Arts. Participants will also learn about concepts related to community wealth, economic justice, and racial equity. The business categories include Art, Film/Media, Graphic Design, Music, and Photography.  We prioritized selecting existing businesses owned by people of color and women. Participants met twice a week from 6:00pm-8:00pm during the entire month of August which will led to a community pitch competition and pop-up shop on September 1st. Trent Calvin a local photographer won the grand prize package valued at $1,000 * to support their business.

This project is funded and supported by Enterprise Community Partners and the Center for Rural Strategies.

*Grand Prize Package: $500 grant towards business expenses + $500 in-kind business support products and services.

*The $1,000 Grand Prize Package is not an entirely cash package. We will also provide in-kind products and services that have been assigned a fair market value of $500.

We plan to expand this initiative to other counties in the Mississippi Delta. Interested in participating or have questions? Please email contact@higherpurposeco.org
